cornea
If you have a refractive error, such as nearsightedness (myopia), farsightedness (hyperopia), astigmatism or presbyopia, refractive surgery is a method for correcting or improving your vision. At Glaucoma-Cataract Consultants Inc. there are various surgical procedures for correcting or adjusting your eye's focusing ability. The most widely performed type of refractive surgery is LASIK (laser-assisted in situ keratomileusis), where a laser is used to reshape the cornea.

There are many conditions that affect the retina, such as Macular Degeneration and Diabetes. Age-related Macular Degeneration (AMD) is the leading cause of vision loss in people over 55. Macular Degeneration is a very common condition and affects one in five people aged 70-84. Diabetes is a disease that affects small blood vessels throughout the body. The retina is the nerve tissue lining the back of the eye, and it is this nerve tissue that lets us see. Small blood vessels run through the retina, supplying it with blood. When diabetes affects these retinal vessels, it can affect your vision.

Our Oculoplastics services include eyelid lesion removal and blepharoplasty as well as ptosis repair. Ptosis is a condition in which the upper eyelid(s) droops. The eyelid may droop only slightly or it may droop enough to partially or completely cover the pupil, restricting or obscuring the field of vision. Ptosis should not be confused with extra skin, fat or muscle to the eyelid, which is typically addressed with blepharoplasty surgery. Blepharoplasty corrects sagging skin and puffy bags around the eyes by removing excess skin and fat from the upper and lower eyelids.
